EU Funding Overview

General Overview

Information about applying for EU funding can be found on the University of Cambridge's central Research Operations Office website, while further information, tailored to the needs of researchers in the arts, humanities and social sciences, is available via the links below.

Dr , Research Facilitator (International Funding), is happy to meet with potential applicants from or applying in conjunction with the School of Arts and Humanities and the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences to discuss further.

Another useful resource is the UK Research Office (UKRO) website. UKRO is the European office of the UK Research Councils. UKRO's mission is to "... promote effective UK engagement in EU research, innovation and higher education activities, by:

  • Enabling the UK research community to make informed decisions about participation in EU programmes and to maximise the opportunities available to them;
  • Supporting UK input into European research policy development and implementation through informing and interfacing with the appropriate bodies; and
  • Developing and maintaining a suite of quality services that meet the evolving needs of sponsors and subscribers”.

They operate on a membership basis, receiving subscriptions from universities and other research organisations in the UK, as well from some non-UK organisations. The University of Cambridge is a subscribing member so can benefit from all UKRO’s services. These include:

  • Dedicated pages to all of the main European funding sources (European Research Council, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, and other kinds of European research funding) including news and information on all funding schemes
  • A news service delivering information relating to EU policy matters, new funding calls, job vacancies, etc…
  • Training and information sessions on major funding calls
  • UK National Contact Points for the ERC and MSCA, providing a query service (via telephone or email). The NCPs can answer questions on any aspects of the these programmes, including questions relating to call dates, eligibility, the application process, results and post-award processes.

Access to UKRO subscriber services can be reached through the following link (individuals need to first create a free account): https://www.ukro.ac.uk/

Please note that EU FAQs relating to the UK referendum on European membership are available here.
