Guidance for Aspiring and Current Principal Investigators

There are many good reasons for being interested in external research funding that you have probably already considered before accessing this guidance.

As a future applicant for research funding or an existing grant holder, there are a number of things to consider and potential issues to be aware of.

While not all of them are relevant from the outset it is helpful to have at least a basic understanding of relevant processes, responsibilities and the support available to you.

This guidance document addresses many of the areas that you may come across while seeking research funding, while setting up your project and team, when managing staff, finances and project activities, producing publications, impact activities as well as reporting on finances and project outputs.

A Brief Guide to Fellowships and Funding for Postdocs and Early Career Researchers in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

This guide is a general introduction to postdoctoral fellowships and research funding opportunities for early-career researchers in arts, social sciences and humanities.

The information on the various schemes outlined here has been mostly gathered from the funding institutions’ websites, and is intended to be a starting point for your own research on the topic.

Funders often change their eligibility criteria, application processes and deadlines, and even well-established annual competitions may be changed or even discontinued. Given this, we would advise you in all instances to check the relevant institution’s website if you are intending to make an application.
