Reporting Requirements

Expenditure Statements

Typically on ESRC and AHRC research grants, financial reporting is necessary only at the conclusion of the project. Where this is the case, the Final Expenditure Statement (FES) must be submitted in the JeS system within 3 months of the end date.

RCUK projects are set up in the CUFS system with a 'Close' date that is two months after the official end date of the project. This is intended to allow for all final expenditure - sponsor invoices, expense claims - to be processed in good time. This then leaves one full month for the final reconciliation to be completed and submitted.

All FEC costs, such as Estates, Indirect Costs and Directly Allocated PI time (all assigned to Task 100 in CUFS) will run automatically and be claimed in full where possible. The Department will need to confirm that all other costs are final, and that expenditure has been incurred in line with the sponsor's terms and conditions, in order for the Research Operations Office to submit the FES on behalf of the University.

Sanctions may be imposed for late or non submission of reporting deliverables, please see section GC19 of the RCUK Terms and Conditions here.

RCUK may additionally request annual statements of expenditure on high value projects, or those with a longer duration.
