Research Funding and Strategic Initiatives

This session will provide current and prospective Principal Investigators with an overview of best practices and recent developments in the impact landscape. The primary focus will be on the pre-award space and how to prepare the impact components of AHRC and ESRC funding applications but the Impact Facilitator will also provide guidance on how to design engaging impact activities and strategies for implementing and evaluating those plans, once funding has been secured. There will also be an opportunity to review and discuss documents created as part of recently funded impact projects.

We will address questions including: How do you go about identifying potential beneficiaries for your research?  At what stage should you first consult stakeholders? What kinds of activities should you consider when making impact plans? What are the key things to bear in mind when crafting impact summaries and Pathways to Impact documents as part of funding applications? What are reviewers looking for? What internal supports exist for developing impact projects? What kind of monitoring and evaluation should I be doing?

All members of the research community are welcome. Please note that these sessions are not intended to address the development of Impact Case Studies for REF 2021; researchers interested in the particulars of that aspect of impact should contact their assigned REF Impact Coordinator.

This session is now complete but if you would be interested in attending a similar event in Easter term, please get in touch with the Arts and Humanities Impact Facilitator.
