Global Humanities

The Global Humanities Initiative was founded in 2020 to provide fresh insight into big-picture questions – the future of the human world and the human spirit – by drawing together diverse perspectives. Recent decades have seen the emergence of high quality, vibrant universities in many regions of the world, and the GHI provides a framework through which we exchange ideas, histories and perspectives with the collective aim of teaching and researching a more diverse and globally aware Humanities curriculum. The Humanities – art, music, architecture, literature, religions, history, philosophy and language studies – have often been at the forefront of profound changes, but without an awareness of our multiple and diverse histories, no genuinely new thinking is possible. The emphasis of the GHI is on re-discovering, re-understanding, and critiquing multiple, distinct, and intersecting worlds and showing how these remain vibrant and compelling today.
