Grant-Development Cohort Programme for the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

This was a joint initiative from the School of Arts and Humanities and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences that offered a cohort-based grant-writing programme.

The aim of the programme was to improve the grant proposal development skills of AHSS researchers through advanced training in grant writing, project management, research leadership and collaboration skills.  The programme concluded with a two-day overnight writing retreat at the Hyatt in Eddington.

There were two cohorts open to 15 participants each.  Cohort 1 was aimed at early-career researchers and Cohort 2 was for mid-career and established researchers who wanted to improve their grant writing skills.  Each cohort offered concentrated support, space and time to focus on developing a research grant proposal.

Programme

The Cohort Programme drew on the expertise of specialized consultants to cover key aspects of proposal development, including:

  • Persuasive grant writing: content, style, scope
  • Leading research teams and creating a positive research environment
  • Developing impact and collaborations objectives within the Case for Support
  • Data management and open access in research proposals
  • Effective peer review and responding to peer reviewers
