My dissertation is on the transnational activist movement for Soviet Jewish emigration, 1948-1989. Narratives of this movement in Western historiography typically tell the story of American Jews "saving" Soviet Jews through grassroots and establishment activism and intense government lobbying. My dissertation seeks to integrate the history of American Jewish activism into the broader context of this transnational movement, focusing on American activists' interactions with British, Israeli, and Soviet activists.
