Research Interests

One strand of my research is American fiction (in long and short forms) from the nineteenth century on. Another is the cultural history of activities and objects (such as sport, flowers, beaches, razors) that are ubiquitous in everyday life but whose place in representation is often unacknowledged.  

Research Interests

I write on nineteenth-century U. S. literature and its transnational connections. I'm particularly interested in the literature of slavery and abolition, including slave narratives and anti-slavery newspapers. Currently, I'm working on the transnationalism of the nineteenth-century theatre.
