Research Interests

I work on the history of political thought, with a focus on the US and Europe from the twentieth century to the present. My current book project focuses on claims about race, rights, and national hypocrisy in the twentieth century US. 

Research Interests

I'm a historian of US religion and US foreign relations, with a particular focus on Protestant missionaries and their relationship to US power. My book, Word across the Water, examines US empire in Hawai'i and the Philippines in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries through the lens of missionaries, exploring the ways in which they used historical narratives to negotiate their position between the imperial and the local.

Research Interests

I’m a historian of the United States focused on Indigenous dispossession and US state formation primarily in the nineteenth century American West. I also work in the digital humanities, mainly using GIS to examine the history of US public lands. In collaboration with journalists, I've written about the history of US universities, too.

I work mostly on US history between the American Revolution and the Civil War, though I've also written about the colonial period and about 20th/21st century US history. 

Research Interests

I study US history from the late nineteenth century onwards. I work on the history of media, consumption, materials, and everyday life; I am increasingly thinking about US consumption practices in a global context.
