UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship

UKRI has announced the Future Leaders Fellowship Round 8. This scheme aims to support early career researchers who are transitioning to or establishing research independence. The number of applicants that the University of Cambridge is permitted to submit is capped at 10 for this round and the call will therefore be managed according to the University’s restricted calls policy.

Fellowships run on a 4+3 year model with total award values typically up to £2m. The scheme is open to both UK applicants and international applicants looking to take up a role at a UK-based organisation. The Faculty/Department must commit  to providing an open-ended position at the end of the Fellowship, as well as a tapered salary support from year 3. Current UTOs are eligible to apply, but they should be able to show that their current position does not demonstrate achieving research/innovation independence and thought leadership.

The School was asked to provide a ranked list of candidates to the Research Strategy Office. If your Department/Faculty would like to nominate a researcher, please fill out the attached form and send it to

ahss-srf-administrator@admin.cam.ac.uk by 20th April, along with the applicant’s CV. We encourage the use of narrative CVs. If you have any questions about the scheme, please contact Anna Cieslik at amc238@cam.ac.uk.
